2025 postcode search summary

Are you sure you’re at the right polling station?”.

The numbers

Only around a third of England had elections this year, the smallest local elections since 1975.

We received polling station data from every council that held scheduled Local Elections on 1 May (125 councils). Additionally, data was collected from 14 councils that conducted by-elections on 1 May, including 10 councils with postponed Local Elections, as well as polling station data for the Parliamentary election held.

The smallest set of elections we’ve ever covered gave us the smallest number of postcode searches since 2019. Between 00:00 Monday 28 April, and 22:00 Thursday 1 May, our elections database processed a total of 1,587,973 postcode searches from the UK public. This is still more than we got during the 2017 general election, however, demonstrating how far we’ve come since then.

Breaking it down, areas which had elections provided around 50% of our postcode searches over the week, while areas which had their elections postponed gave us 10%. These latter areas saw a message explaining the postponement, with a link to the relevant council webpage.

Over the entire election period from 1 April to polling day, we processed just shy of 5 million postcode searches.
